Guardian of Creativity

A dear friend of mine is creating an alter.  I wanted to contribute something special.  She's a writer and a painter.  Talent oooozes from her fingernails if you know what I mean.  As with all of us (artists that is) she's not always able to honour, own and express these gifts freely.  Like so many of us, the belief system in her talent breaks down.  We all seem to need help in that department.

I created Moon Goddess, Guardian of Creativity.  This Goddess honours, protects and celebrates the gifts artists  have been given.  Constructed with powerful talismans, blessed with secret powers, she has gone to live with my friend, to be the sacred guardian of her artistic gifts, keep them safe and encourage their growth.

* Another Prayer Flag ...

 

Five down, one more to go.  Someone asked what I was going to do with these.  They are part of a swap on Book of Days.  We each make six, five to mail away, one for ourselves.  I will receive five in return.  Hope to hang them in my studio.

Funny, after I took the photograph of this flag, it read as "content of a box" instead of "content with my life".  I'm not sure if I will add an 'ment' on the end or not.

So far behind I think I'm first .. just can't seem to do anything about it at the moment ... I'll try and get around to see you all soon ... very soon.

Today, I made a couple more prayer flags as well as hearts which we are sharing to use in our Book of Days.

* Prayer Flags & Soul Sisthas ...

Just joined an interesting group within our Book of Days pod.  A prayer flag swap.  The idea, as you probably are aware, is to hang these beautiful flags outside allowing the wind to carry the prayers out into the world.  Nice thought.  The notion of hand made ones really appeals to me.  Here's my first attempt.

* Love yourself FIRST ....

The beginning of a new painting.  Completely surprised by it.  It's night.  There is a full moon.  She's in the forest holding a lamb.  There is a bird in the tree.  Is she contemplating life?  Does the lamb she is holding symbolize her own soul?  Who knows.  All I know is the what she told me today.  "If you don't love yourself first - if you don't put your own needs first and make yourself happy - live your best life, fulfill your own needs, use all your gifts and fulfill your own passion, you are no good to any one else.  You are no good to anyone else in that you are miserable.  You have not yet achieved our hearts desire and until that is complete you are unable to give yourself to others without resentment."  More later, I am sure.

Here is the first block in.  A long way to go yet.  Large canvas ... 30" X 40".  I'm working in acrylics - still a learning curve for me as I'm used to working in oil.  Believe me, in this high dry climate, the paint nearly evaporates before you get it on your pallet.  Amazing how challenging it is to keep some wet paint for immediate use.

* Book of Days

Caroline has departed and arrived home safely in Vancouver.  Miss her terribly.  Who to have coffee with in the morning?  Who to have champagne with in the evening?  Habibi is in a funk.  He has low grade depression.  Where is the knee I was sitting on every morning?  Try and explain that one to a dog!

Kathleen, Ivan and I are bravely carrying on without her.  Dinner at Don Felix last night -- extremely fabulous food accompanied by good company, great conversation and two bottles of wine.  Need I say more ....

Some photographs of the sun sets at the Luna Bar .... Kathleen and I are addicted.  Ladies night Wed.  We will see you there.
