* Total eclipse of the Moon. Winter Solstice 2010

I was up half the night.  Couldn't drag myself away from the magic.  The air was crisp and cool, the sky clear as the tinkling of bells.  Something very special took place.  The magnitude of it all overwhelms me and make me feel small and very special to be here on earth at this time.  I snatched a photo from HERE.  It was the best representation I could find of what I witnessed during the night.  I shall never forget it.  A total eclipse of the moon which coincided with the Winter Solstice has not occurred for about three thousand years.  We are so lucky to have had the opportunity.   How many of you were witness to this amazing event?

Red Moon they call it.  The beautiful orange glow as La Luna is completely immersed in the earth's shadow.  This is exactly what it looked like to me.

That's the thing about magic.  You've got to know it's here.  You've got to know it's all around you or it disappears.

We got up at 3 a.m when it was "eclipsed" and then watched until it "un-eclipsed" by 4 a.m. We even saw a meteor streaking past the moon--did you see it? It was truly spectacular and beautiful. How lucky we were to see this. Cheers, Tina

Well, I watched it on YouTube. Since we are in our 5th straight day of rain - unbelievable - it has not stopped once - it wasn't meant to be in this part of the world! I'm envious - I had hoped to photograph it, but the universe has spoken. So glad that you got to witness it!!!

Hi Tina ... thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a note for me! I actually watched the eclipse and conked out before it uneclipsed. Didn't see the meteor. That must have been quite spectacular! Happy Christmas.

Hi Patty ... it really was a privilege to see it in person. I really feel like I was part of 'something BIG'. I'm so sorry you had storms .. I know your photos would have been amazing!

You're welcome Donna. I've been reading your blog for a while now--you've definitely had your trials and tribulations, but you continue to prevail so good for you! We are here now too after a hiatus--perhaps we will meet one day. Take care and Happy Christmas to you too. Tina

Well I am sure I was awake for it but too tired to think. I have seen so many great shots from other bloggers.
