* Love yourself FIRST ....

The beginning of a new painting.  Completely surprised by it.  It's night.  There is a full moon.  She's in the forest holding a lamb.  There is a bird in the tree.  Is she contemplating life?  Does the lamb she is holding symbolize her own soul?  Who knows.  All I know is the what she told me today.  "If you don't love yourself first - if you don't put your own needs first and make yourself happy - live your best life, fulfill your own needs, use all your gifts and fulfill your own passion, you are no good to any one else.  You are no good to anyone else in that you are miserable.  You have not yet achieved our hearts desire and until that is complete you are unable to give yourself to others without resentment."  More later, I am sure.

Here is the first block in.  A long way to go yet.  Large canvas ... 30" X 40".  I'm working in acrylics - still a learning curve for me as I'm used to working in oil.  Believe me, in this high dry climate, the paint nearly evaporates before you get it on your pallet.  Amazing how challenging it is to keep some wet paint for immediate use.

Thanks so much for dropping in.  Take care and make yourself a wonderful day.  xxoo Donna

“If you aren’t good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you’ll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren’t even giving to yourself.”

Every thing you've said is so true, but sadly we women rarely put ourselves first. Never seems to be anytime for that that! I can already tell this painting is gonna be beautiful - love the little lamb and the even the eeriness of the bird in the moonlight. Add some medium to those acrylics should make it easier - I know what you mean on drying quickly - I can't imagine that on a scale of 30x40!

Loving the lamb.. A gentle thought and message. Would not have thought about climate and the effect on materials. Keeps you on your toes I'm sure.

How true, how true, Donna. I'm sure you miss your company but now you'll have a little more time to do what you love -- painting.

I believe your signature for the latest paintings is the eyes. When they go up in a gallery people will say, "That's a painting by Donna Parker. Just look at the eyes and paint colors."

I like the lamb and hand on this one!

Hugs,
Carolyn

Oh wow, even if it's only a block in, looks great to me! I hate our humidity on the upper Texas coast, but I guess it does have its advantages. xoxo
